Former Christians: Was science in the top 5 reasons why you left the faith?
Top 2 reasons? Top reason?
14 AnswersReligion & Spirituality2 years agoAtheists who left the church because of Genesis: did you get your view from reading it, or did someone feed you a YEC interpretation?
I'm in a little debate group, and one set of people say it was just the way the text was written. Another says that it's clearly mythical and that you have to be told to read it that way to get YEC (young earth creationism) out of it. If you read YEC into the text, do you think that hearing it explained in a different way would have changed your mind about how we were supposed to have gotten here?
9 AnswersReligion & Spirituality4 years agoWho is to blame for the confusion about Genesis 1-11?
Is God to blame? Is Moses to blame? Is it our fallible interpretations that are to blame? Is Ken Ham to blame? Is Ellen White to blame? Is there no actual blame here, because nothing really matters? Give me an answer that makes sense to you. Please draw from your personal experience and give some background on what you came from and where you ended up.
6 AnswersReligion & Spirituality4 years agoAtheists & Christians: On the Genesis 1-9 and Neo-Darwinism, how do you resolve the conflict?
Do you:
1. Reject the myth of Genesis?
2. Reject the atheistic interpretations on science?
3. Interpret Genesis and atheistic science in compatible ways?
4. Something else.
Please give long answers and reasons. One liners will make everyone disappointed. But if you must use a one liner, please answer the question.
Background: Some people say that YECs are making people atheist. Did Ken Ham make you believe the Genesis text the way you did? Others are saying that there's only one way to read the text, but many ways to read the rock record, starlight, etc., and that atheists are being made by more or less the rejection of scripture. I'm trying to get an honest sense of if one or the other is true. Maybe both. What's your experience. Where did it come from, and where did it go?
6 AnswersCommunity Service4 years agoWhy aren't people obsessed with fixing the problem of their impending death?
I just finished watching the E! true Hollywood Story about Gilligan's Island. I am watching The Birth of a Nation (1915). One had half the cast dead of old age, the other all of the cast is long since dead. When I was 20, it was easier to push the problem back, but as I'm well into middle age, and seeing people who were young adults when I was a kid dying of old age, it has really become clear recently that death is the elephant in the room that people rarely talk about. It seems like it should be the obsession of every person on the planet. What happens when we die? I don't understand atheism at all. Even if nothing happens, what's the value of acting as though that's the case. Jesus' promise of resurrection seems like the only plausible hope. I just don't get why more people don't spend their life on it. How could anyone be nominal in their Christianity?
2 AnswersReligion & Spirituality4 years agoAtheists: Would it make a difference to you if you knew that God was TRYING to hide from you?
A quick search of "hide my face" in the Bible yields this:
https://www.biblegateway.com/quicksearch/?quicksea...
Since I'm not an atheist, I am looking to understand. It was my experience that when I felt like God wasn't there, that I was praying to a wall, that God might not even exist, I pressed through that feeling because the only other plausible religion I'd run across to that time was atheism. And if atheism is true, when we're dead, we're dead. Nothing matters long-term. It's like putting money in a bank that has a lava pit beneath. So I pressed through the feeling that God wasn't there, I pushed through the feeling that God wasn't listening, and about a week into that, God revealed Himself to me. Not in a direct vision or an audible voice, but in a way I found convincing. And God was obviously trying to convince only me. After that, there was a good year where I felt like I was praying to a wall. There was nothing - no feeling, no revelation, nothing. But after a year of persistence, God revealed Himself to me again. At each revelation of his presence, He made it clear that He is not a force, but a personality. He's scary as [****]! I'm not talking about beauty or awe, but poop your pants because you're afraid scary (Ex. 20). He answered my philosophical questions with ease, things that I thought were so hard to answer. Would it matter if you knew that we have to SEEK God to find him? (Mt. 7:7)
9 AnswersReligion & Spirituality4 years agoWhat is the natural selection advantage to babies crying at midnight?
From a religious perspective, it makes sense that God would design a trial to grow us as parents into something more patient and less selfish, but from a Darwinistic perspective... I have heard of people literally throwing their babies when they didn't stop crying. A well rested caregiver makes a better caregiver.

1 AnswerFashion & Accessories8 years agoAtheists: What was your religious BG, and why did you give it up?
If you didn't start out atheist, what did your parents teach you. And what about what they told you (or your religious affiliation) did you find unacceptable and/or wrong? The more specific, the more helpful.
If you did start your life as an atheist, why did you never accept the prospect of a Creator God?
(BG = background)
18 AnswersReligion & Spirituality8 years agoTo Christians turned Atheist - a?
I'm a youth leader at my church, and I got to wondering, how many of these kids are going to leave the church because they didn't listen.
Did you listen during Sunday School?
This question is also for Christian turned <insert other non-Cristian religious affiliation here>.
And if you want to answer a bonus question, what was the issue that turned you away from Christianity?
6 AnswersReligion & Spirituality8 years agoFor an oops baby on condoms, was it because you didn't like the feel of the condom?
Was it that you didn't feel like using one once and you made a baby, or was it that it broke, or did you use it correctly and it happened somehow anyway? Did you just not have one around at the time? Would it have ruined the mood?
