What is the natural selection advantage to babies crying at midnight?

Assuming every trait is an evolutionary advantage means we are perfectly evolved, and thats not the case. We still have plenty negative traits that natural selection has not hammered out yet. Genetically humans are pretty darn good, but we're not perfect.

The evolutionary advantage is that if the infant does not cry when in distress, it could likely end up malnourished and/or eaten by predator in primitive conditions. In primitive conditions the shelter is a lot less secure to begin with, and the odds the infant has for survival are very sharply increased if it is sleeping with the mother, for security against predation.

Much (not all) modern night crying is about how we have oddly separated infants from mother's beds, and the instinctual reaction of an (any) infant to not having the natural touch it is programmed to have.

The physical security of sleeping with the mother on reasonably hard ground -- suffocation through rollover on hard ground being much less of a danger than simply being carried off by a coyote, etc.

Consider that God Himself created physics(!).... Thus He created all the aspects of nature!

Any evolution is/was merely yet another tool of His. Though it appears He allowed much time, and thus some evolution, we cannot assert that He did not also intervene in evolution in decisive ways, at will. If you are lucky enough to be near Chicago, you could even learn from the 5 mass extinctions exhibit in the Field Museum how these mass extinctions favored the rise of mammals, of us.

That last big asteroid impact, 66 million years ago, was just the right size to favor our ancestors, and remove completion.

what has this to do with the natural instinct and behaviour of infants? nothing. here, this one thing has nothing to do with the other distinctly.

2. The majority of them get the proper feeding & care they need.

3. A few get abused. But they will get abused no matter what they do.

4. Most abusers will go to prison where they can't procreate anymore.

Less infant death due to dehydration or starvation. Survival to sexual maturity is advantageous.
