Former Christians: Was science in the top 5 reasons why you left the faith?
Top 2 reasons? Top reason?
The better answers seem to come after the first wave of one liners. Thank you for actually answering the question, those who did.

Most former Christians are that way because they have unresolved problems with personal, sexual sin.

Yes I'd say it's in the top 5, but it wasn't the top reason. I was never a young earth creationist and had always accepted the Theory of Evolution. I just assumed that God just sort of started it all billions of years ago and I always knew science wasn't in the business of proving or disproving a God. My real reason I deconverted was when I was questioning my faith, I set out to do research to find any corroborative evidence that would support what the Bible had been claiming. Instead it was like pealing an onion looking for a core of truth or the very least some evidence. The internet was still fairly new back then, but I was able to cross reference religious sites with secular ones to see if there was corroborating evidence between the two. Not only did I not find any evidence to support Christianity, but the evidence I did find actually contradicted it. It took a few years for it all to sink in, but in the end I ended up losing belief because I had to accept that there just wasn't any verification for Christianity.

No. Modern science is now the number one reason why I am a Christian.

Perhaps my point of view is not welcome here. I am a devout Christian AND a scientist. I see no conflict between the two. As a scientist, I am keenly aware of its limitations. The truly enlightened ones embrace both.

I became an Atheist when I realized that there is no reliably testable evidence that demonstrates a god exists.
This is the only "reason".
However, I remain open to examining any reliably testable evidence but until/unless it is presented I am not compelled to invest in belief.

Science doesn't disprove God, evolution is just a theory

It was in the top 10, but I never fully believed in young earth creationism. Honestly, the biggest reason I left is because I started researching where the various books in the Bible came from.

No such thing as a former Christian. Those who fell from faith WILFULLY committed sins and have been TAKEN by the devil.
