Equation of reaction:
2NaHCO3 + 2HIn^- + CaCl2 ---------> CaCO3 + 2HCl + 2Na-In^- + H2O + CO2 (water remains unchanged)
Where H2In^- = Phenol red indicator
1. Heat is evelved durinf the reaction indicating an exothermic process taking place.
2. Effervesence occurs indicating that a gas has been evolved.
3. CaCl2 and NaHCO3 react to produce an acid (HCl).
4. Phenol red is an indicator. It turns yellow in the presence of an acid.
: A colour change is observed (from dark pink to yellow) indicating the formation of HCl.
