What gear system and brakes should i put on my 2013 lapierre zesty 214?
I want to get rid of the avid elixir 1 brakes and the low end shimano gear system. I have been looking at various shimano slx/XT/XTR components. I'm not looking to spend too much.

High end components cost more. If you want to upgrade and don't want to spend much money you will have to hunt for the best deals. When upgrading shifters, even thought it seems as if it is more expensive, shifters are the best option. Shifters control shifting. Better shifters are more precise and will improve the shifting performance of your bike more than better derailleurs. In addition, your new shifters will include the appropriate cables, another often overlooked upgrade. If you are looking to upgrade a bike that you bought only this year you made a very common error. You should have spent the extra money for a better model right away, it would have cost you far less money to upgrade on the showroom floor

Do you mean that you paid 1500 pounds for a bike with low end components? Really?
Have you actually experienced a lack of performance on that bike that wasn't due to lack of proper maintenance?
Or are you in desperate need of a bike that has the right brand names all over?
