Will a Safelink Wireless sim card work in my daughter's Samsung Focus?
I'm cutting off my daughter's cell phone because she refuses to get a job. However, I still want to be able to get ahold of her, so we are considering Safelink Wireless. The only problem is, she's turning up her nose at the cheap phones they make you use. Bad parenting and entitlement aside, does anyone know if it's possible to use a Safelink sim card in the phone she already has?
I will be reporting any answers like "amg mayk hur gt a JOBBBB" or any other answers that attack me or my daughter personally or just do not answer the question. If you can't answer the question, DON'T POST.

The answer to that is no. Safelink Wireless SIM cards are initially program linked to the phones they ship with (but can be changed via Safelink's customer service to another Safelink phone, should the original phone break down.).
That is in line with how Tracfone (the company that owns Safelink) runs, where the basic phone SIM cards are limited to only basic Tracfone products. Their smartphone SIMs (for Tracfone subsidiaries SIMple Mobile, Net10 and Straight Talk) are linked to the higher cost plans and will not transfer to Safelink programs.
On top of that, even if one were to get a Safelink SIM to run on a smartphone, that is a violation of the terms that the FTC has for phone programs that get funding from the Universal Service Fund, and can result in the recipient being kicked out of the program, possibly permanently (though the chances of getting caught and punished are slim for the moment, the calls for "buckling down" on "violators/abusers" are growing). The "idea" is that if the person can afford to have such an "expensive" phone, then they make too much for the USF funded programs.
That being said, some states do have (or are proposing implementing) rules that require the recipients of a USF paid for phone to at least search for a job and in some states, accept a "reasonable" one. That is not meant as an attack, just a statement of facts that may be relevant to the topic at hand.

Depends on if your American device is unlocked or not. Nothing will go wrong if you just try to insert the Swedish sim card in it. The phone number, and possibly some phone numbers are stored on the sim card, but that's all. The memory won't get replaced so your applications and photos will still be on the phone.
