work at home as varnisher?
I was wondering if I honed my skills at varnishing wood, (I used to work in a boat yard), could I then market myself in this region (Bulloch County, GA ) and develop a part time job / employment for myself? I thought there might be enough people out there with nice wooden doors, etc., that might be looking for such a guy. Thanks for your input.

Yes you could! I think you should start off by making business cards and distributing them to small businesses and ask if they would put a pile by the cash register in case anyone was interested. An ad in the local newspaper would help as well! They aren't that expensive. Best wishes :)
