  • Did Ablotionists or Soldiers and Sailors end Slavery in the U.S.A.?

I have read much about the Civil War in the U.S.A., and have always believed that Solders and Sailors fighting each other ended slavery in America. Somebody I know thinks it was Abolitionists, and I am having a hard time explaining to them that that is an incorrect understanding of the actual historical events. Please help me out. Thanks so much.

  • What does the word (?) "ap" mean in this sentence ....?

" Yet now he was seized by one of those temper tantrums that according to Catesby ap R. Jones were his main flaw." ??? (p.142)

The source is "A History of the Confederate Navy", written by Italian author Raimondo Luraghi, (Naval Institure Press, 1996), and throughout the book, Luraghi uses this "word" when mentioning a new historical person. I looked it up in my old-fashioned Webster's, and on-line, and I can't figure it out. Please help. And , thanks in advance. Ciao !

  • What is the proper term or phrase used to discribe employee-managment working groups?

I worked in a factory in Maine years ago, and the management / excecs hired this firm, which came to the factory, and organized us low-level workers into teams, one or two from different departments. Then we were guided as to how to evaluate our working environments and practices, and then submit these observations to executives for implementation. (sorry, my spell checking machine is not working ...??!! ) Any help in this regard will be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much.

  • If a guy is a LCDR in the U.S. Navy, what may he gain from being sent as a graduate student to Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas?

This transfer will take place after serving 12 years on both Fast Attack and Boomer Subs. What types of Schools are there that would benefit a Naval Officer? Thanks for all of your help in this regard.

  • Please help me find a source for the standard, common, interior dimensions of burial vaults in the u.s.a.?

I have built a casket according to plans obtained on-line. However, I need to be able to site a source for those who ask, " How do you know the casket you built will fit into the standard sized vaults used ?" I have spent about 45 min.s typing in every possible wording for, " burial vault dimensions ", in the search engine, and there is not one source that I can find. I keep coming up against this one company as a reference, [whose name shall go un-mentioned ] but they don't give the exact dimensions of the interior, nor any at all , for that matter. Any help in this regard will be greatly appreciated. Humbly, john

  • satellite accuracy and chart navigation?

We were looking at The NOAA chart for Fernandina Beach, Florida. ( 11503 ? ) My friends new place is 300-400 yards from the shore, and we used his smart phone to tell us the Lat. and Long. so we could identify where his new place was exactly. ( The street is not indicated.) Well, his smart phone source told him we were a mile or so away, OFF the Chart ! I say the satellite numbers given to us are wrong. My friend, who has never been out to sea or used charts as I have, says the chart may be wrong. I say "NO WAY." What say you ? Thanks for all of your help.

  • ghost tour-guiding when I don't believe in ghosts ?!!?

I have been a successful tour guide, (of General History) for 8 years now. I have the opportunity to teach myself walking ghost tours, though I don't believe in ghosts. The man that wants to hire me says it is no problem, and that other guides have told him the same thing. My mind is having a hard time in trying to formulate the tour, being honest with the history, while NOT turning off the customers that are True Believers. How does one do it ?!? I am not offended by people's belief in ghosts; but as I am a tour guide, I feel some believers may be offended if the Truth of my understanding be told or is implied. My wife and daughter also tell me it is no problem, but HOW ? Any of you folks out there that are in the same Boat, and want to help me out here? Warmly, Weehawker.

  • clover seed germination ?

Sorry , Folks, ...... but i tried to find this answer on the "internet" , but all the industry answers were not there.

How long does it take , on average , for "Clover Crush" , deer bait clover seeds to germinate ? We are using the seeds / plants to naturally fertilize our soil in our vegetable / herb garden. We ARE not "purists" or doctrinaire; and we live just West of Savanna, Ga. (Zone Nine, for real. ) We just want to amend the "Lunar Soil" we inherited from the previous owner of the property. He was a WWII Vet, and we loved him. But now we are trying to grow plants, and the soil is like a dessert. Thanks so much.

  • copy "Racer Evans" wooden boat lines / hull dimensions?

Is there a booklet or book to obtain, that shows clearly how to copy the "lines" from a small, 14 foot, wooden boat ? ( I searched for books at different web sites .....)

There is no copy write to the design, Racer Evans, and some one told me there is a method, using a hand tool that looks like half of a Christmas Tree cut-out. Any help in this regard will be greatly appreciated. I live near Savannah, GA. Not as many boat-wrights down here as up in N.England. Thanks.

  • work at home as varnisher?

I was wondering if I honed my skills at varnishing wood, (I used to work in a boat yard), could I then market myself in this region (Bulloch County, GA ) and develop a part time job / employment for myself? I thought there might be enough people out there with nice wooden doors, etc., that might be looking for such a guy. Thanks for your input.

  • mailing a submarine crew at port?

I want to mail some thank you letters to members of the U.S.S. ALASKA Gold Crew at their home Port.

Nobody on the base will return my calls, and the base phone operator is not in service any longer. The Web searches show the APO address from Bangor. It is now at Kings Bay. I am sure they have an In Port Office.

Can anyone out there say, " Military Intelligence " ?

    Thanks so much !

  • guidlines for spritual retreat?

I am looking for a handy, concise guide to prepare for a week away at an Abbey. Not a Book, but just the top six or ten things to focus on to keep me from wandering in my daily prayers. ( I wonder if they will let me bring my Mando, to play way-off by myself somewhere ?) I don't want to just show up with my Bible and Imitation of Christ, and shaving gear, ( meals and linen are included .....). I want to be prepared, and stay on track, and not just "Wing It ". I need structure while there, on my own. What say you ? Thanks so much.
