Does the Mechanics Institute Building, New Orleans, still exist?

There was a massacre in New Orleans, LA, 30 July, 1866, at the Mechanics Institute Building. The reference I have says it was on Canal Street, and Dryades Street. Google does not show these streets intersecting. Would someone out there please help me find out the exact location where this building was, or still is ? Thanks so much for all of your help.

It's Common and Dryades Streets. Not Canal.

Today that would O'Keefe or Rampart (depending on which direction you are headed) and Common just before Common turns into Tulane.

the building hasn't been there for years. depending on the actual corner, it's either a parking lot or a hotel or the home of The Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra.

The Mechanics Institute was later taken over by Tulane University and used for classroom space. Still later, it was torn down and replaced by the Roosevelt Hotel. The name of the street has changed from Dryades to University Place. The answer above is inaccurate.
