I am living out of state but got a jury duty letter?

I moved on August 1st from California to Michigan. I don't own an apartment I have been staying with a friend and at a hotel occasionally until I finish getting settled in Michigan. Now today my parents called me and said a letter came yesturday for me that I have to serve Jury Duty back in California in the middle of September.

What can I do? Who do I even talk to?

There is usually an address to write to, or to send in Medical Excuses, stuff like that.

your parents can fill it in, explaining that you no longer live in California, that you moved to Michigan on August1.

    it isn't difficult.

There's a phone number on the letter for the court clerk. Call and tell them that you no longer live in the state. They may need you to mail in some evidence of that.

it's not a big deal, it happens every day.

There is a section on the summons that lists valid excuses for avoiding jury duty.

Either have your parents send you the summons and fill it out, or have them fill it out for you.

You'll need to contact the courthouse and explain your situation.
