Purchasing farmland in New Zealand is regulated by the government. Unless you are a farming business the only way you can purchase a farm would be the apply for and be approved for the necessary visa. If you are approved for the necessary visa that would enable you to purchase a farm you would also be approved obviously for a residence permit. Depending on the situation it may lead to the ability to apply for Permanent Residence however it does not grant you citizenship. To be eligible for citizenship you must be a permanent resident in New Zealand for at least 5 years and basically spend the vast majority of time in the country. After 5 years you are eligible to apply for citizenship and, if your request is approved, you will be issued a grant of New Zealand Citizenship.
