If widows defender comes with windows 8, what's the difference between that and mse?

Which is a better all around security windows defender or microsoft security essentials?

    Defender is purely anti-spyware. MSE includes this functionality and also includes full antivirus protection. If you have other anti-virus software installed there is no compelling reason to switch to MSE. If you don't have other antivirus software installed, get MSE installed pronto! Installing MSE will uninstall or disable Defender, depending on which OS you are running.

    "Windows 8 *already* has a full antivirus/antimalware product installed. Windows Defender on Windows 8 is more like MSE than like Windows Defender on older versions of Windows.
