Could my back pain be related to my period?

Okay, my periods are really irregular and I never know when they're coming. I'm 16 and coming up for completing my 3rd year since my periods started. It's been 5 weeks since my last period, but that means nothing because I've gone as long as 12 weeks without one before.

Anyway, I have horrible back pains, lower back and stretching up to the arch of my back. I have had back pain once before during my period, but never before my period. And even if I had, I can't judge where I am in my cycle because of the irregularity of my periods. I do have a bit of a cold now, could that have anything to do with it? Or is it related to my menstrual cycle?

Any help would be much appreciated, I don't know what's going on :(

Yes the back pain can be related to your period. I have had back pain before my period actually came before. It's a symptom of PMS. As for the irregularity, you might just be irregular because it's only the 3rd year on your period. My period only became regular after the 8th or 9th year! I also know that PCOS can cause irregularity so if it is a concern, I would contact your doctor. I would look up the symptoms of PCOS to see if you might have that.
