Love story ideas....?

If you just want ideas and tips on how to build a story, then try this: Journal every day for a few weeks. This gets you in touch with your voice. It builds the habit of writing. Hopefully, if you are honest in your journaling, you will be able to learn about who you are and what you believe. A writer must know that above everything, because that is what a story begins with.

Well your story should always start with your characters. So you first have to ask yourself who are these 2 people that will fall in love. Will they be a man and woman or will they be the same sex. Then you have to figure out who they are in life. For each character, you need to decide who they are as far as what work will they do (school, job, beggar) and what they will look and be like. This is where you can decide if they will be mystical creatures, like vampires, or if they will be just 2 regular people. As far as their looks, this is where you can decide if you are writing some steamy romance where everyone has chiseled bodies of the gods, or are you writing a story about 2 people who maybe have average looks, are perhaps outcasts, and find each other outside of looks. Now is where you will add in your conflict and figure out is this a doomed love, such as they can never be together for specific reasons (one is married, one is immortal, one is from another planet, or maybe there is war or disease that is ravaging their world and riving them apart). Or is their love always meant to be despite others around them saying it will not work (does the alien take the other one away, does the immortal give up immortality, does the war create a terrible conflict between them but one they overcome at the end to be together). It is through this conflict that you must decide what is driving these characters to love each other and to stay together. There has to be deep seeded reasons as to why they have chosen each other and why they would be willing to sacrifice some of those things I just mention, or even their own life, for the one they love. ALL love stories are X meets Y, they fall in love. That's how romance starts. It's only the details on how and what happened that vary.

Ask your grandparents how they met. That's usually a good story. Or ask them what the sweetest love story they ever heard was. Adapt to your own story.

Or pick up the newspapers and look at the wedding announcements in them. Or the obituaries. Use those characters to draw up a story. Go to Starbucks and look at the couples and try and figure out how they met.

If you can't find inspiration yourself, you're not going to be inspired to stick with the story. You'll write two chapters and then quit because it's someone else's idea.
