Tips To Keep My Computer Battery From Wearing Out?

I have a brand-new computer, only two months old, and I've already noticed that the computer battery lasts less and less everyday. In other words, after I unplug it after being fully charged, it'll last 6 hours one day, and a week later the full charge will only last 5 hours and 45 minutes. (That's just an example, don't get to hung up on the numbers, I'm just trying to get the point across.)

Does anyone have any tips on how to slow the process of wearing the battery out? I'd really appreciate it!

Update:

Really guys? How hard is it to read the question all the way through? I don't care about making it last longer when it's unplugged, I mean making it last LONGER as in not die IMMEDIATELY after I unplug it! Pay attention!

    two simple things:

when you're operating from the power supply, remove the battery (unless it needs recharged; then when it's fully charged remove it as you continue to operate from the power supply)

let the battery get down to about 20% before recharging

The screen back-light takes a lot of power to run. Turn down the screen brightness to the lowest setting that won't cause eye strain. You will normally see an immediate improvement in indicated battery life.

Reduce the amount of running applications. More open applications use more CPU power, therefor more battery power. Even multiple open tabs in your browser will cause higher power usage. Also, anything that is graphics intensive (gaming, image editing, etc.) will also eat up battery power.

Turn off Wifi when not in use. That will probably be a rare occasion, but it will help battery life.

Basically, you want to keep the computer from doing anything unnecessary in order to preserve battery power.
