GIRLS ONLY!!! My period is ruining my life.?
I'm not exaggerating when I say my period has ruined my entire life. I've had it for 2 years now, and at first it didn't bother me, but then I started getting it every 2-3 weeks (is that even normal? i thought it was supposed to be every month?). It ruined both of my summer vacations because every time I planned something, like going to the beach or going on vacation, it would come, and I wouldn't be able to go because my flow is too heavy and I get terrible cramps. I've leaked through my pants SO many times, i've lost count, and no matter how many pads i wear, or how thick they are, it ALWAYS (and i mean ALWAYS) manages to leak through. I've done everything possible, and nothing makes it lighter or stops my cramps. It's never on scedual, it's always irregular, and sometimes I get it on the spot and embarrass myself. It's gotten to the point where I can barely go out whenever I have it because i always bleed through (and no, going to the bathroom frequently doesn't help because it leaks by every half hour/40 mins and I can't manage to go to the bathroom that often). I don't care what anyone says, THIS isn't normal. Periods aren't constintly supposed to get in the way of your everyday activities like they do with mine. And again, i'm not exaggerating a single bit. Don't tell me to "suck it up" because it's easy for you to say when you don't have it as bad as I do. I can't go on birth control until i'm 16 ( im 14 now). My period has ruined my entire life, from my summer vacations, to my school years.. it's ruined everything. PLEASE give me some kind of advice that can help me with this? thank you x
ALSO: i've just started a new school since i moved to NYC. I really wanna start fresh at this new school, but that's never going to happen if i bleed through my pants every god damn months. PLEASE HELP.
again, it's easy to say i'm being overly dramatic when you have regular periods, a light flow, and little cramps, thank you very much. :)

You deleted your other question about girls/guys and life being unfair -_-
Well here is my reasoning:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
-don't PMS - No, but that's just preparing your body in case you get pregnant.
-don't have to carry kids - No, but it's still their obligation to take care of offspring.
-don't have to give birth - No, but someone has to do it. It just happens to be us!
-don't get raped or sexually harassed - Yes they do. There are more men who get raped than you know, they just don't report it. It's embarrassing and harder to prove. Men get sexually harassed too.
-rarely get bullied - Yes they do and often with guys, it's more physical.
-can go out without having to cary mace or self protection - Nope. Men will carry guns or knives and sometimes mace too. There are still murders/thieves out there who don't target any certain gender.
-can pee standing up - Yeah, so? It's not that special. We have different genitals because we have a different role in creating children. It's absolutely fine. You need to embrace our beautiful differences! Plus they did make a peeing device for women to use standing up: http://www.go-girl.com/
-don't have to worry about what they look like: Wrong. Many guys are just as self-conscious about their looks!
-aren't judged: Yes they are! They're judged on just as many things as women.
-don't have back stabbing friends (or have to worry about it either): Huh? What does this have to do about gender? Men and Women BOTH can have back-stabbing friends.
-can swear (while when a girl curses, everyone says its "not lady like" and people say she's "acting trashy"): It's actually becoming more acceptable for women to swear. I swear no one looks at me any differently. Same thing with a ton of other girls I know. When it comes to swearing, there just has to be a limit. It doesn't matter if it's a girl or guy, if you swear every other word and in every sentence, you'll look like an idiot. Really, if you're going to swear at all, just use it to make a point/show that you mean what you say! Don't swear just because you "can".
-don't self harm: Yes they do.
-don't (or rarely) get insecure about their appearance: Again, they DO.
-can wear sweatpants everyday without being judged that they look like dirtbags: Wearing sweatpants doesn't automatically mean you're dirty. Where did you get that from? Sweatpants usually is just seen as "comfort clothes". There's nothing wrong with that. I rarely see guys wearing sweatpants anyways. It's usually girls, but that doesn't mean everyone judges them. I never do. I just think they want to be comfortable.
-can have sex without being called whores or sluts: Ever heard the term manslut? Player? Yes, they are judged.
-can act immature whenever they feel like it: Anyone who acts immature is judged. Women who complain about men acting like boys. You're wrong.
-get more pleasure during sex: Wrong. Both sexes can have orgasms that feel great.
-aren't in pain during sex: Yes, actually they can be. I don't feel like explaining: http://menshealth.about.com/od/sexualhealth/a/pain... , http://www.health.com/health/condition-article/0,,...
-don't get abused (relationship wise): Some women actually do abuse their partners. Men just don't report it because they will be seen as weak because they didn't stop the woman by physical force (which could then be seen as abusing HER, even though she started it).
-can easily ask for sex without getting judged: Men are judged all the time. They are seen as sex-crazy and incapable of controlling themselves. If a man can't get sex, he's seen as weak and pathetic.
Now to answer THIS question:
Your periods WILL become more regular and more bearable the longer you have them. I'm almost 20 and they used to be pretty terrible as well, but they're a lot better now. For now, try:
- Reserving certain pairs of pants and underwear for your "period days", so you don't ruin any new ones.
- Try taking Midol, Advil, or Ibuprofen for the pain.
- If you need to, wear OVERNIGHT pads as your regular pads. They're extra big, so it helps (like Always maxi overnight - the purple ones)
- (I don't do this, but..) If possible, try wearing tampons AND pads. The pad will catch whatever leaks out accidentally.
- BREATHE. It'll get better over time and you'll be ok! Try to hang in there until then (or until you can get birth control). Good luck!
Ha I know why you are going through really I do and it SUCKS!! It feels like it's
Running your life!! I went to see a doctor.. My cousin is like this too.. So when her mom said she can't be on birth control (as we know it makes it lighter) and her mom took her to the doctor the doctor actually told them birth control would be a good idea to make it lighter! HA! so she got to use it at 15 years old!! Tampons help use the lowest absorbency to your needs change it as often as needed and along with the tampon use a pad or pantyliner too incase u leak your tampon you have EXTRA protection!! Use those longer pads the ones u would use for the night.. The thick ones They cover all of your area... So if your really worried i would make a little trip to the doctor with my mom!! Periods are a pain!! Worst thing ever and I'm still having troubble with mine!! Haha it's not easy being a girl haha! But good luck!!!
You're being overly dramatic - periods are as good or as bad as YOU make them, problems like irregular periods, menstrual cramps or heavy flow can be treated and managed, it's just you haven't learned how yet.
Irregular periods are completely normal at your age, you can help regulate them with treatments like lunaception or herbal treatments like chaste tree, you can also learn about how to recognise when your period is due - if you were to learn how to use fertility awareness method this will give you a much better idea of when your period is due even if it doesn't fit the average 28 day cycle.
If your period is heavy then lighten it with medications like tranexamic acid or other NSAID's like Ibuprofen, like with irregular cycles regulating your hormones will help with heavy flow too. Use a menstrual cup, they hold far more than tampons and pads combined plus have light suction so don't leak like tampons or pads, plus they can be worn at any time even before menses and for swimming. If you get menstrual cramps then again treat these, regulating your hormones will help but other options like clary sage, herbal treatments or dietary changes will help too.
If all else fails talk to your doctor to ensure there's no underlying health problem - for the record the pill will not help, it will hide the problems but long-term won't do anything to help with these problems, and in the mean time you would lose the benefits of your cycles and risk side-effects.
Edit - I have hyper-menorrhagia so I would leak through an ultra absorbency tampon, overnight pad, and clothing within 15 minutes, I wasn't even allowed in school during the heaviest days of my period. I DO know what it is like, I am speaking as someone with first-hand experience as well as ten years worth of experience working within women's health. You are being overly-dramatic, as I say above there are ways to manage and reduce all the problems you list here, if you learn how.
