Just a bit more info on MAC filtering Every single device connected to the internet has its own unique MAC address. No 2 devices of any shape or form should have the same MAC code. They are blown onto the firmware of the device during manufacture. (the MAC address is not on the computer but the ethernet device itself) If you set up the MAC filter on your router to only give access to devices that you specifically list (you will have to get the MAC addresses for each device you want to connect to the router) Then it will deny access to any device not in the list (If I remember correctly even if you plug it directly into the network the router will ignore it) To break into your system someone would have to get one of these codes then change the MAC address on the device they want to use to connect (and thats not easy - it would take a very determined effort.) My opinion - MAC filtering should be used a lot more.than it is. It does mean that you cant just add another computer to the network, but thats the exact purpose of it , and it is easy to add the new computer to the valid codes. (When I say device I mean router, wireless adaptor, ethernet adaptor etc)
