Math 0.46497 = x -2x^2 HELP?

Please help me, show me how to solve the equation, so I can learn and I'll be able to do it in the future! :)

0.46497 = x -2x^2

    x - 2x^2 = 0.46497

    -2x^2 + x = 0.46947

    I would first divide both sides by -2 to get rid of the x^2 coefficient.

    x^2 - x/2 = -0.234735

    Add 1/8 to both sides.

    x^2 - x/2 + 1/16 = -0.172235

    Rewrite the left-hand side.

    (x - 1/4)^2 = -0.172235

    Take the square root of both sides and then you can solve from there.

    0.46497 = x -2x^2

    x^2 - 0.5x + 0.232485 = 0

    (x - 0.25)^2 - 0.0625 + 0.232485 = 0

    (x - 0.25)^2 = -0.169985

    x = 0.25 ± i.√0.169985

    x = 0.25 ± 0.412292i
