Who was the last racehorse to...?

... win the St Leger and the Arc in the same season? All this talk of Leading Light possibly taking his chance in Paris had be pondering this question. Also wondered who was the last Derby winner to win the St Leger? I did back Leading Light but must admit I can't see him claiming the Arc against the likes of Novellist, Orfevre, Flintshire, Al Kazeem and The Fugue unless the going's bottomless. It's also a tough ask for a 3 year old to drop back 2 1/2 furlongs in the world's best flat race. I can see him more of a Gold Cup winner next year. I do love the Leger still, my second favourite Classic, behind the obvious. Anyway I'd appreciate anyone who pops up to help me out. Cheers.

Ballymoss won both races, but not in the same season (St Leger 1957, Arc 1958)

Reference Point won both the Derby and St Leger in the same year (1987)

MrBookie: it's such a shame about these mindless trolls who have nothing better to do. I was so looking forward to your St Leger comp.

Was Nijinsky, 1970 the last winner of the Derby and St Leger?

I know that Oh So Sharp won the Oaks and then went on to win the St Leger in 1985

Sorry about the Doncaster comp Charles but my question was reported and violated. The troll then reported every question of mine for the past 4-5 months.

I didn't "get on" / like the other site Jac even though it's informative and has many great people.

Nijinsky just failed to add the arc to his st leger in 1970,a combination of the st leger blunting his speed and piggott having him too far back got him beat what makes it worse was he hit the front 50 metres out but hung left near the line and got done by a head

got beat in the champion stakes two weeks later when his highly strung nature finally got to him

not many derby winners run in the st leger nowadays which is a shame

who can forget the great shergar finishing a long way 4th to cut above in 81

We were all so sick of Trolls gatecrashing our Competitions and racing talk on the 'Horseracing Section' that we found a new home where you are treated as human beings who love the sport. It is a great Forum where there are Competitions and sensible racing talk galore and folk from all around the world can visit whenever they want.

Just email me for the website address and I will give you details of a fantastic Forum that will not report, give you thumbs down or violate your questions, oh yes and there are not automated replies you deal with a Human Forum Adminstrator..

    Jac :)

Most of us from Yahoo are there already, some came and didn't stay but might hopefully reconsider and come back again..

PS..I was going to say Oh So Sharp too.

Here's a nice article regarding the English Triple Crown http://www.attheraces.com/leger/article.aspx?hlid=...

Mr. Bookie, Sandra S., Blue Jan and I were also reported by the troll when we posted race selections. Yahoo said we were "chatting" so we all appealed. Blue Jay posted a race today. Hopefully it won't be taken down. Sorry to hear that the troll leached onto you.

i was going to say alleged but he came 2nd in the st leger.user friendly nearly did the double but another filly beat her into 2nd place in the arc.

leading light realistically as no chance in the arc.the arc trials today will shed more light but i can think of at last half a dozen who would beat him imo.

orfevre and flintshire are the 2 for me.
