which is better? Nutro Max or Purina Pro Plan?

I have a saint Bernard, she was born last year on Easter. My mom is finally switching her to adult food. We want to switch her to blue buffalo but can't afford it. She is on Nutro Max large breed puppy. Should we stick with Nutro max or go to Purina pro plan?

They are both crap, BUT Nutro MAx is far better than ANYTING Purina makes, it is pure garbage. Look at the ingredients lists. Meat (not meal) of some type should be the first ingredient. Met or meat meal should appear again in the first 5 ingredients. There should be no corn, wheat or by-products. There should be no meat by products, no animal digest. No beet pulp, no dried egg product (whole egg is fine) Innova, Orijen & Merrick are a few of the good brands out there.

I would stick with Nutro Max Large breed. Nutro is made in the USA by Nutro employees. There are no fillers so the stool volume will remain low... well as low as a Saint Bernard can have. Within the adult formulas, you can provide a variety by rotating between the chicken, the lamb, and the beef.

Any of these foods have a lot of fillers that just aren't good for a dogs diet. If you can spend a little more there are a lot of better dog foods out there. The very first ingredient should be a high quality meat, secondly there should be no fillers or byproducts. I use Innova Evo and my dogs eat a raw diet with veggies and fruits. If you do a google search for high quality dog foods and compare them you will be able to find one that fits your needs and your budget. I used Purina One for years and I am so sorry I didn't change sooner. The good thing about the higher quality foods is that you have to feed less because they are high in protein and the dogs absorb more nutrients so that does offset the cost somewhat. You will also find that you are cleaning up less dog poop also because they are using the food instead of it just going right through them. Good luck.

  • They are both great and i think nutro is better and more natural yet may be more costly. Either way the most important is to feed a large breed formula, as large dogs have different nutritional requirements and have to make sure the protein is not too high, etc. I would go nitro.

Try Taste of the wild. Both the brands you mentioned are lower quality brands. They have grains in them also, which are undigestible to dogs.
