Are You Ever Concerned About Being A Victim Of Gun Violence?

There's another mass shooting in the news today. When I go to work, or to the mall, or a theater or sports event I honestly do not think about being a victim of gun violence. But its getting to be so common now, maybe I should. Maybe I need to locate safety zones and escape routes when I am in a public place. Has it really come to that? Do you ever feel concern about being a victim of gun violence; you or someone you love, like your kids at school or a spouse? Does it enter your head, and if so, how much? Are you real concerned to the point of worry, or is it just a passing thought for you?

Living in a country where people do not as a rule have guns, it never crosses my mind.

We do have some of our police armed, but I have yet to hear of any of them turning on people.

I do think about violence (not necessarily, but including gun violence) against myself and my family, especially in crowded places and I do make sure to check out and stay aware of my surroundings no matter where I am. I've had a couple of experiences in my lifetime where I just had a strange (maybe even bad) feeling about something going on in the area and I left and sure enough, something bad happened a few minutes later. I'm not a real big believer in women's intuition or anything like that, but something, and I still can't put my finger on what, made me uncomfortable and maybe even saved my life or the life of one of my children. So, to me it only makes sense to plan ahead the best you can. We can't live in fear all the time, but we can be prepared in case something bad happens.

I am at times concerned as I have worked in the inner city areas of new York City during the drug & crack infested eras.

I also fly often & have to think about terrorists who might try to shoot up an airport terminal.

I was in the US service in Vietnam for two years & it would have been more likely to have been shot then by the enemy but it would be ironic if I had gotten shot while a civilian doing official government work.

I have been involved in a knife fight during an attempted robbery & other violent activities by criminals & that is not fun. Knifes actually scare me more than hand guns.

Yes, life today is very violent. I'm afraid for my future kids and what would happen to them. The world is changing so quickly and the amount of violence is appalling. I'm always aware of what's going on around me, I make sure of that. I worry when I hear gunshots or a loud bang. Which is pretty much nearly everyday. I would make a safety plan, just in case. Better off safe than sorry :)

The only time is during an event like this. Most of time I do not consciously think of gun violence. If you let this bother you and you are always thinking about it then you are letting violence win. This is no way to live your life. The unknown and unseen will always be present in this world. The best way is to just be aware of your surroundings, be leary of people or situations that do not appear to be normal.

I think about it, but I don't live in fear.

I had a gun pointed at me once because my dumb as$ friend tried to pick a fight with someone. He's not my friend any more.

I live in a large city, and hear stories about violent crime all the time. I carry a concealed handgun, so if I ever encounter someone who tries to hurt me with a gun or any other weapon I'll have the chance to defend myself.

I decided when I was in the 8th grade, this world was a horrible place for children. So, I vowed I would never father any. Personally, I don't worry about being murdered, at all. If I am murdered, well, I never thought this world was a decent place for human beings, either.
