Can ducks catch diseases from mice?

Today I noticed that there are mouse feces in my ducks' feed. I do not know how long they have been there and may have given my ducks food containing feces, and if so they ingested it. Can my ducks catch disease from these mice?

Yes and you can by handling the feces- and breathing the dust or minuet particles that float off of these droppings.

( Read this site- our own government Center for disease and control has this warning.)

Field and commensal rodents are the natural reservoirs for viruses in this group and these viruses are found worldwide. Infected rodents shed viruses in their urine, feces and/or saliva and can remain chronically infected. The contaminated excreta from infected rodents are thought to be the source of virus for aerosol and direct (animal bite) transmission to other rodents and humans.

Human exposure to hantavirus is prevented by avoiding contact with rodents and rodent-infested areas, by controlling rodent populations, and by proper sanitation

    Zoonoses (pronounced ZO-uh-NO-seez)

are diseases that humans can catch from

    animals

And if your ducks get sick they can pass on the disease to you - know as vectoring.

No they can't, ducks & mice/rats would live in the same habitat in the wild side by side but they are completely different species & cannot catch diseases from each other.
