Almost all of my web pages are insecure?

I have windows 8 and was using McAfee virus protection (free trial). I began to notice that the majority of the pages I visited had this symbol — http://i.imgur.com/zx0m7C1.png — in the search box.

I use google chrome (as evident in the screenshot) and the computer is new. I've uninstalled McAfee and switched to Windows Defender and am currently running a full scan. McAfee never detected anything. I'm scared that there is some sort of spyware and I don't want to enter any information on the computer. What should I do?

Check your computer's time - it should get updated over the internet. If your year is way wrong the browser thinkgs all certificates are expired or not yet valid.

Otherwise, click the security icon and read what it says about the certificate. If it says unknown authority, maybe your certificate store is messed up.
