Scottish tax, oil and gas is worth more than what Scotland gets back OR fear of losing MPs (the latter won't be a big problem for the Tories though).

Voting for Scottish independence, is like red squirrels voting against grey squirrels. It's too late, nothing much will change... and the park will still be full of squirrel sh*t. If you believe Alex Salmond is any less of a lying shyster than David Cameron, then you are living in cloud cuckoo land.

This is just a way for the Tories to get rid of a political liability. Labour don't want it... but they will redraw the constituency boundary's when the next get into power anyway. The Lib-Dems are simply irrelevant.

Most English people are more interested in what happens on Eastenders next week. Outside of this site, I haven't heard a single mention of the issue amongst friends or workmates.

  • Lol from the point of view of defence it is better to cover the whole Island, England, Scottish mainland and Wales are all on the same tiny chunk of land.

I cannot see why the Tories are that bothered they have all of one MP in Scotland as far as I know and Scotland bolsters the Labour vote against them so they would be better off without it.

I don't think it's the oil, it's running out anyway and moving our air, army and submarine bases will simply cost Scottish jobs although it will be inconvenient as they are well established up there, there are some in the SNP who want them gone despite the cost, fine, let them pay for their own defences out of Scottish taxes, personally I think the whole thing is rather silly and the majority of Scots think the same!

Could it be because the idea of Scotland being alone in the world does actually frighten many in that great Northern land ?

I can remember an advert years ago for the insurance companies. It said "Get the strength of the insurance companies behind you"

Scotland will lose the strength of a global power and when the bully comes in the playground they will be left shivering and alone.

Not a nice thought just for the ego of Alex Salmond who will resign anyway when the referendum badly goes against him next year,as it surely will.

Because of the cost and problems it creates

If London had it's way it would become independent, much like Vatican City, because most of the UK is subsidised by money made by investment bankers

So they aren't so much bothered by Scotland leaving in terms of money that will be lost but by the practicalities of how to handle things afterwards

E.g. if it's true that Scotland has a budget deficit and cuts military costs then that exposes the rest of the UK

There are all sorts of questions like how much money should they be given to start them off with?

Their banks were bailed out by the UK government so should they be handed over in state ownership or after privatisation?

Should Scotland be responsible for their bank's bad debt?

Voting for independence is easy. But how do you settle who gets what after the divorce?

Because they are all the same. Social Democrats. I don't know why they oppose Brussels taking over the sovereignty of Scotland. It's been a liability for the UK for a long time. I resent the money that gets pumped in to Scotland and will be very pleased to see them become someone else's drunken inarticulate friend.

It's a distraction that will be resolved a year from now.

SNP thinks a divorce with the UK will be amicable, most Scots know better.

This will get very messy because Scotland itself is really divided on this and most don't want it.

They are afraid that when Scotland shows it can work, and work well without the likes of the Upper house, Foreign Aid, etc. English people will start to question why they are lumbered with such gross wastes of money.

Quite simply, the established Parties are worried for their status quo.
