What are some cool guitar gadgets to get?

I play the guitar since a year.. I'm pretty good too, I have an amp and I'm looking forward to buying a pedal. Now I've been asked what do I want for my birthday that has to do with my electric guitar. I really don't know what to choose. What are some other things like pedals and pickups to get? What is something that every guitarist should have???? That's my question.. Thanks in advance.

Essential pedals: Volume, Wah Wah, Distortion, Delay, Flanger, Chorus, Tremolo, Tuner

other cool pedals: Loopers, Acoustic Simulator, Whammy or other Harmonizer, Noise Gate, Equalizer, Ring Modulator, Compressor, Reverb, Phaser, Sustainer

Multi-effects pedals are cool too, I prefer individual stompboxes mainly because they are better for on the fly adjustments and live performances...it just depends on your preference and style.

    Capo

    E-bow

High quality cables (don't skimp when it comes to cables)

Digital recorder (like a Tascam or Zoom...great for recording ideas and jam sessions)

For a pedal, get a programmable multi effects pedal rather than individual pedals. Compression, a noise gate and another Wah or volume pedal (if the multi effects pedal comes with just one pedal) could be options if the AMP or the multi effects pedal doesn't have those options. A noise gate will take care of any hum coming from the amp if you aren't playing. If you have little or no hum then you don't need it. A compression pedal eliminates the highs and lows of your tone which helps mask sloppy guitar playing. You might not want it. A volume pedal allows for volume swells and you probably already know what a wah pedal is. They should be separate pedals even though many are a combo. The reason for that is the way they switch from being a volume pedal and a wah pedal and you can easily trigger one effect while messing with the other.
