Root canal on upper molar - advice wanted!?

This week I had a root canal on an upper molar. The procedure was quite expensive but luckily painless. Right now the tooth is filled with some temporary material untill next week where I will get permanent filling (plastic). The dentist says he recommends I have it crowned in about six months. But it is VERY expensive here in Denmark! Obviously I have the option to have it crowned in one of our neigbouring countries, but I like my dentist and feel safe in his hands, so I am not crazy about the idea of paying loads of money to have another dentist in a foreign country do it.

Therefore my question is: Have you had a root canal on a molar? And did you have it crowned? If not, how is your molar doing now, and is it even possible to go without the crown?

I am 27 years and therefore I obviously need my teeth to last for many years to come. Hope someone can help me make the hard descision.

I have had a few root canals. One when I was in my 20's, over 40 years ago. So I can give you a fast forward about what is best. You have to get it crowned, usually sooner than 6 months. I had mine all done within a month of the root canal. Just enuf time to be sure the root canal healed well.

The crown protects the tooth. Without it the tooth is a dead, weakened old tooth, very susceptiable to cracking and falling out over time. With the crown, as I mentioned, I still have the tooth after 40 years tho I did have to get it recrowned about 10 years ago.

Definately get it crowned, spend the money, teeth are worth a lot.

YES! you defiantly need it crowned. When a tooth is root treated it is dead and becomes brittle. If you leave it , it will defiantly snap or crumble beyond restoring and you will have to have it extracted .
