How to get rid of a program on my computer..?

My son downloaded ITunes onto my computer, and with ITunes came some unwanted "guests". The search engine I had chosen to use was Firefox. When ITunes was downloaded it brought "Bing" with it, and also, "Conduit search". I've gone to "Add and Remove Programs" but they don't even show up there. How can I clean those things off my computer?

Depending upon your operating system (I know you can with Win7), you may be able to roll back to a restoration point before ITunes was installed.

I am always careful when I download software to do a "customized install" so you can control the download directory and which elements are installed. I recommend especially to avoid letting the software install a "toolbar". They will attempt to change your search engine and other things.

If you remove the main program (ITunes) sometimes the uninstall process will also remove the "unwanted guests". Try that, then reinstall ITunes and go through the "custom install" process.

Many times, these unwanted programs are stored as part of your browser and don't show up through the control panel to remove. Try removing them from your browser's "tools" menu or "internet options" or "add-ons" menus.

In any case, your browser should let you select your search engine of choice. Good luck.

Conduit is currently the most popular malware on the internet. Depending on which version you have, it can potentially be hard to remove. The newer versions of the conduit maleware will install programs that, if they detect that one of their fellow pieces of software has been removed or uninstalled, they will automatically replace it. This leaves the user with a system of programs that need to be eradicated simultaneously or else they will be back in due time. Don't fret though because the older versions of conduit are by far the most popular and doesn't do this. All versions will install an extension to your web browser (an "add-on" in firefox). This add-on/extension will automatically change your default browser, home page, and new tab pages. To fix this, go to tools>add-ons and then remove the foreign extension. Once this is done, you will have to go through your settings and manually change them back to your preference.

Edit: Conduit is malware because it has the capability of installing other malware and adware without the user's permission.
