How do I become friends with this guy in my class?
He caught my eye last year but we never had classes together. We talked a few times but only because of a mutual friend...and because of her it made it real awkward. its a new school year and I have 2 classes with him. He seems quiet but he's talkative/fun around his friends, exactly like me. Making friends for me is quite difficult because I am shy/quiet also, so I dont know exactly how to approach him. I do know his older brother who graduated last year. If I sit by him, I was gonna be like "Hey, your ____ brother, right??.."
.I just really don't want to be in those awkward conversations that die off within a few minutes...

yea i would definitely start there. talk about his brother and how u guys know each other and ask what he is doing now and stuff. if the conversation dies off don't show that you feel awkward because THAT'S HOW THINGS GET AWKWARD! just let it go that the conversation has ended and pick it up some other time. Smile at him in the hallways and talk to him whenever you think of something to say! Walk with him to class every now and then when you can. continue to sit next to him and then maybe ask to study together sometime and then if he says yes go out to lunch when you guys need a break. After that you guys will be able to feel comfortable with each other of the lunch goes well

Give compliments to him. example: I like the color of your tee. After he replies say something like where is your next class? then say i hate this class or so and so and explain why. This keeps conversations really long. But remember to have new conversations. Be friendly, comfortable, and confident. I've done this and made at least 10 new friends.
