Hello,
My view is that your time might be well spent studying some of these historical events you mention in some detail from good academic sources..Hints:
1) The Crusades got going because the Seljuk Turks were expanding and besieging the Byzantine Empire and her capital, Constantinople. The emperor tried appealing to the western European powers for help and knowing the leaders of the western powers were a bunch of quarrelsome robber barons, asked the Pope to mediate and get their united help since the kings had his ear.
To add insult to injury, that same year about 7000 Europeans who had gone on pilgrimage to the Holy Land said that the former Muslim overlords had been OK to deal with but these same Seljuk Turks who had taken were nasty SOB's to deal with.
2) This Gott Mi Uns slogan had been on German army belt buckles since the days of Prussia, German unification and Otto Von Bismark. In the the 1930's the Nazi regime wanted this slogan removed once and for all but for once and a rare occasion the army almost revolted about this. The Nazis relented so the regular army hence got to keep it but the fanatical Waffen SS got a new belt buckle slogan saying " My honour is loyalty!
Cheers,
Michael Kelly
