How can I stop my cat from taking trash out of my trash can?

My cat has a new hobby - taking all the trash out of my trash can and scattering it all over...

He even does it when I'm in the room with him! How can I stop him from doing this? (PS: There is no food in my trash can - just office papers).

It sounds like he doesn't have enough toys to play with. I also have a cat that loves to play with paper. Sometimes I give him an empty toilet paper or paper towel roll and he tears them apart. He also has lots of toys. Other things you can try are a drinking straw, a paper bag (no handles) or different size boxes. He sounds like a rambunctious cat that needs a hobby and he has chosen this one. Use your imagination - there are worse things he could get into - like plastic (also my cats favorite).

Paper is a fun thing to play with. Either you can empty the trash can more or have a trash can with a lid.

i had the same problem with one f my cats, they love playing in paper bags, its like a toy for them. i suggest maybe putting out a paper grocery bag or something in the room where he trash is because if you put it out then most likely the cat will go there... if that doesnt work, i guess you can just put a top over the garbage or like one of those garbage cans you step on to open? good luckk either way!! :)

spray citrus smells on the trash can Lemon and Orange peel, or the citric oil sprayed on your trash can or Bitter apple could be the answer except for the fact that it is not available everywhere.

Source(s): Proverbs 12:10 says: “The righteous one is caring for the soul of his domestic animal, but the mercies of the wicked ones are cruel.”
