The Swede killed Lily ( strangled her) to get back at Cullen, because he knew Cullen liked her and he wanted to hurt Cullen badly.
Mr. Toole killed himself. He couldn't take it that Eva loved Elam more than him. The last straw was when he went looking for Eva and found her in Elam's cabin. She had gone to there to break it off with Elam, but to Mr. Toole, it didn't matter. He shot himself in the head in front of her.
The other Mr. Toole you're talking about is Mr. Toole's brother from New York..different actor, different character.
