Fallout 3 is more the explorer's dream. It has the least of graphical power, butyou can pretty much go anywhere and explore without following the story. It has a few glitches.

New Vegas is a bit more linear. More complex, overall I feel a better story, but more glitches and bugs. Graphics are SLIGHTLY improved over 3, but barely.

Skyrim is the most beautiful and vast hand crafted world ever created. You can spend some time just LOOKING at stuff and be marveled by the sights. The concepts, controls and interfaces are very simple, probably too much compared to other ES series games. But it's the game with the most bugs and you can't just wander without encoutering quest glitches.

My vote for sheer replayability remains Skyrim. Because I'll take swords over guns.

Well comparing Elder Scrolls to Fallout is like apples to oranges. If you like swords, axes, bows and arrows, and magic as opposed to dynamite, pistols, plasma rifles, and sledgehammers you'd like skyrim and vice versa. Skyrim has the most attractive landscape, and it has a better creation system than New Vegas (e.g. Taking wildflower and fruits and veggies to make effective potions as opposed to powders and salves) also in skyrim your armor and weapons cannot be broken, whereas in both new Vegas and 3 you have to constantly repair your armor and weapons.

Vegas trumps 3 in terms of graphics and companions, but 3 has easier access to plasma and laser weapons. I prefer 3's story to New Vegas, but Skyrim has much more content. You can spend weeks doing sideqjest and even unmarked sidequests. Both fallout games lack the mass amount of content and sidequests.

In my opinion skyrim is the best of the 3, but if you really like guns then New Vegas is the option for you.

fallout 3 has a better story. new vegas has a better game play just for the fact that you can aim down the iron sights.

fallout 3 has better laser and plasma weapons while new vegas has better conventional weapons (aka gun powder boom weapons)

skyrim is okay for me. it has a stamina bar that fallout does not have so you can infinitely smash things

Sales-wise, Skyrim is number one of the three. Personally? I hate guns (the only games that I play with guns are Assassin's Creed games, and I'm fine with that because it has a great story, is based upon real-world history and cultures, and because there are plenty of medieval-style weapons to choose from as well), but LOVE swords! Hammers are cool, too (plus Skyrim's perk for war-hammers has a funny name: Bonecracker, or something like that), axes are alright, but swords are easy to pick up (plus they look SWEET in Skyrim. The Ebony Sword (NOT the Ebony Blade) looks BAD. Well, in a good way, that is). Morrowind had cross-bows and two-handed spears, as well, plus unenchanted staves (should you want to use such); Oblivion and Skyrim only have pre-enchanted staves, which you can't remove the enchantment from. Skyrim does have many breath-taking landscapes and vistas, though I am a little disappointed that it's not all snow and ice, which, I think, previous Elder Scrolls games hinted at (you ever been to Bruma and the Jeralls in Oblivion? That's what ALL of Skyrim should've looked like, but with mountains two or three times taller, and snow five times as deep, with raging blizzards all the time and as many Ancient-Nordic barrows as Cyrodiil has Aldmer ruins). Skyrim does, also, seem to break away from what previous Elder Scrolls games had set up (!*SPOILER*! The Emperor dies in one of the Dark Brotherhood quests, something that Bethesda is going to need to work hard at explaining in future Elder Scrolls games. And I don't mean The Elder Scrolls Online; it's set, like, a thousand years before Skyrim). Skyrim should really be considered a game all on its own, not as an official part of The Elder Scrolls saga. However, it is good, as you can harvest materials from the over-world and dungeons to make weapons and armours at blacksmith forges, which just about every Hold capital has at least one of. It also has random over-world encounters, which can range from anything from a pack of wolves attacking you, to a giant fighting a dragon (which I actually have seen. It's cool, and fun, to stand back and watch the two duke it out. If the giant wins, he won't attack you unless you attack him or a possible nearby mammoth; if the dragon wins, you've got a whole 'nother thing coming), to the Headless Horseman (yes, you can meet the Headless Horseman at any random encounter point. He only appears late at night, and you can't talk with him, but he may wander in to a near-by settlement, which is funny because the townsfolk don't seem to notice him)! A recent patch also allows you to level up your character infinitely (previously, your individual skills could only go up to level 100 each), so you can, pretty much, end up being able to kill any enemy with a single blow, if you get your skills high enough.
