How are public schools affected by a Goverment shut down.?

    No. Public schools are ran and funded at the local and state level. They do receive some federal money, however the shutdown does not directly affect them.

    They are not. They are primarily funded by the states and local communities, and those are not being shut down.

    @Jay - If the shutdown goes for many months, we will be a lot more worried about a lot of stuff than the public school systems.

    Short term: not at all. They are primarily funded by local dollars.

    However, if the shutdown ran for many months, this would mean that Federal education dollars would not go to cities and counties. This would mean that this shortfall would either need to be made up with higher local taxes or a cutting of education services.

    They aren't, not directly. They are funded by lower forms of government (state/city/school district).

    Not a bit. They aren't federally funded. Neither are police or fire.
