Hand on the bible = telling the truth?
It's pretty funny that people are/were required to put their hand on the bible in court and swear to tell the truth. Yet, if that person was accused of murder and said "God told me to do it" they would be either sent to prison or branded insane. Isn't it funny that most of society laughs at religion and only mention/apply it out of political correctness?

I have been a witness a couple of times for the Company I worked for. As a Christian I always felt uncomfortable about using the Holy Bible for this purpose, so I used to affirm.
My justification was Matthew 5 v 37 Let your yes be yes and your no be no I think James' letter also covers that point

the bible is a holy book, it is the word of God.
