have hardwired smoke alarms have removed the cover and the battery and just left the wires hanging down yet i am getting a chirp every 37 seconds from it(the wires basically) i told my apt manager i need it fixed he says its impossible that its chirping. what is the cause???
it hasnt run down..chriping for last 4 ddays. i do not want another hardwired alarm...i will get battery powered but what can i do to stop this chirping????

thats the thing i am too old to keep climbing on chairs that is why i took it apart and want to get a battery only powered one.

If it's still connected to the hardwired power, then it may chirp until a fresh battery is put in. If it's disconnected from all power (hardwired and battery) it may still chirp due to a small capacitor (it should run down within an hour or two).

It is probably using voltage from a capacitor in the smoke alarm soft ware. Put a battery in it and it should stop chirping.

The unit is old and dying. It must be replaced with a new unit. Check the warranty production date on the unit. The design life is 5 years.
