Yep, I use the Firefox browser and installed the flash video downloader plugin-open up a video and download to my computer..

In regards to RealPlayer, if your downloads aren't playing I think this may be your problem: http://www.real.com/resources/play-mp4-files/ It's been a common issue that they recently addressed. Hopefully that will help fix your problem so you don't have to download and learn something else.
