Substituting for Confectioner's Sugar in a Texas cake?

We have plenty of normal sugar; could we just use that?

Update:

If we'd need to do anything to the normal sugar, please tell me.

Update 2:

We just ate the cake (with the frosting made with ordinary sugar) and the frosting was a tiny bit crunchy, but there was nothing wrong with it. It both melted and spread perfectly.

next time try putting the sugar in a food processor or blender for a few seconds...it will make it a bit finer anyway!

If you're asking about the frosting on the cake, you can't substitute regular sugar for confectioner's sugar. It just won't work. The granulated sugar won't melt like the powdered sugar does and you'll wind up with a grainy, sugary mess.
