how much ram and what speed ram is desireable for gaming PC ?

I am building a high end gaming and multimedia PC and am wondering how much ram and what speed ram is the way to go. Im building a windows 7 based PC with the ability to have up to 64gb 2400 SD ram.

Does it make sence to have 64gb of ram or is 32gb enough ? Is there a big difference in the performance between 2400 and 1600 speed ram and is it worth the big difference in price ?

Are you better off with less ram and higher speed ram. For instance 32gb of 1600 vs 16gb of 2400 ? and please indicate how much of each ram is desireable

Lastly: the mother board has the ability to do SSD caching. I am on the fence weather to use SSD caching, or just use a dedicated SSD drive for the OS and larger 1tb for mass storage and maybe even do a raid 1 with an additonal 1tb HD. Does SSD caching make a huge improvement even with a 10,000 rpm HD and if so, does it make sence to use two ssd's one for ssd caching and one for the OS ?

    32GB and 64GB is a complete waste of money, it will take you a very very long time to make it just past 8GB... and as for speed, RAM speed is pretty useless when it comes to gaming... I mean I use 1333mhz and my friend has faster RAM than me, I still load games faster than he does, and well, programs open the same time for both of us... so again, RAM speed, pretty pointless... I hear its good for things like rendering and stuff like that. so the 2 RAM speeds your wondering about are completely pointless but for a high powered PC just go with the fastest speed possible.

    you just need at least 12 GB in triple channel mode or 16 GB in quad channel mode

    speed doesn't really matter, not like you'll notice it. 1333 or 1600.

    you're forgetting that the computer will only work as fast as it's slowest component... typically hard drive.

    I don't know about ssd caching, if you want a SSD I recommend a PCI-e mounted one since it goes way faster than a sata drive.

    i'm currently using SSD primary and a bunch of 3 and 4 TB drives secondary.
