Babe Ruth. Ty Cobb. Joe Dimaggio. Rogers Hornsby. Josh Gibson. These are my top 5 legends. Mike Schmidt. Pete Rose. Barry Bonds. Cal Ripken. Frank Robinson. Top 5 so called modern era, retired. This era is to be determined but right now Derek Jeter. Ichiro Suzuki. Albert Pujols. Miguel Cabrera. Robinson Cano. These guys are strong contenders for greatness when they retire. EDIT: Obviouly Hank Aaron and Willie Mays can not be forgotten.

Most of the previous answers were solid, but Shoeless Joe Jackson is missing, Many people thought about 100 years ago that Joe Jackson was even better then Ty Cobb. One other player, Al Kaline of the Tigers.

Good list but I wonder, since Ruth was a pitcher early on would that disqualify him? Also, I would replace Musial with Rogers Hornsby (although it's close).

I agree but I rank Willie Mays no. 1 He could hit for average, power, steal bases. excellent in the field & a great arm.

Questions like this are subjective and not objective so I would have to say that your list is as good as any.
