Has anyone lived in Oman? How is that place if one were to live/visit there?

I've heard interesting stories about how nice Oman is amidst the fact it's an absolute monarchy that's predominantly muslim.

Wondering if anyone has been there and what their experience of it was.

Any feedback is appreciated.

Dad and mom went last year, and they really enjoyed it. It is a monarchy, but the Sultan is not evil nor oppressive nor corrupt, his people love him (as i've heard) and he actually made a coup against his father because the latter was oppressive and corrupt. Omani people are very nice and i don't think you will have any problems with them, my parents are Christians and they weren't harassed, people were very friendly toward them.

Alcohol is available in specific places as well, there are beaches, women don't have to wear hijab, umm i guess that's it.

Yeah i know that, i heard a lot of stories about him, not sure if they are all true. That is the first time my parents admire a foreign head of state that much.

Oman has always been a sultanate , where have you been sleeping. Nothing new there. But there is a parliament in Oman.

Sultan Qabous father was not "corrupt" , he was just greedy and held the country back in terms of development. He was removed by his son , but Qabous wife betrayed his plan and went to let her uncle (the former Sultan) know what Qabous was up to , however Qabous later found out and threw his own wife in jail . People say he remained unmarried since 1972 until now because he could never trust another women after he was betrayed by one. When this was happening the provincial ruler of Musandam peninsula decided to break away from Oman but Sultan Qabous sent the army and took control of the severed province , and the ruler was jailed for a few years. In this fiasco a couple of guys from UAE were caught in the wrong place at the wrong time , being related to ruler of Musandam province. Their wives when they found out traveled from UAE to appeal to Sultan Qabous to let their men go free. He actually met with the women , after they explained he listened to everything they said , smiled then let their men go free. So this is why people like Sultan Qabous.
