anyone ever had to get rabies shots?
I got bitten by a feral cat. the little bastid nailed me good. I am exploring my
options, here. I can get the shots, or I can have the cats head removed and
sent out for testing. removing a cats head is usually fatal, and I'd rather not
go that route. anyone ever had the shots? what are they like, how many in the
series, etc. details appreciated.

You can catch and confine the cat for ten days for observation, preferably at the vets or some place where they know what they're doing, you don't have to behead it. CDC: http://www.cdc.gov/rabies/exposure/testing.html
But that's kind of a long time to wait seeing as you might be incubating the virus yourself, "Rabies postexposure vaccinations consists of a dose of human rabies immune globulin and four doses of rabies vaccine given on the day of the exposure, and then again on days 3, 7, and 14. The vaccine is given in a muscle, usually in the upper arm. This set of vaccinations is highly effective at preventing rabies if given as soon as possible following an exposure."
