How do you solve this inequality?

3x-1/4 - x-5/5 >-2

The possible answers are

1. x< -5

2.X>0 or x< -5

3.x> -5

4.x< 0 or x> 5

If you could explain it to me that would be great. There are some other questions like this one and it would be better for me to just learn to do this one so I could do the rest instead of posting each one on here.

Find a number that all the denominators go into (4 and 5 both go into 20), so multiply everything by 20:

    20(3x - 1)/4 - 20(x - 5)/5 > -40

    Simplify the fractions:

    5(3x - 1) - 4(x - 5) > -40

    Expand the brackets:

    15x - 5 - 4x + 20 > -40

    Combine the like terms:

    11x + 15 > -40

    Subtract 15 from both sides:

    11x > -55

    Divide both sides by 11:

    x > -5

    First multiply each term by 20 and get 15x -5 -4x + 20 > -4 ... Now just isolate x...

    it is 11x > -55 ==> x > -5 this is the answer.

The correct answer is 3. OK!
