How exactly do you study abroad?

Hi!!!

There are a few awesome european students studying at my highschool in the UK. They all speak pretty good english and are here for atleast six months.

It's made me think, I would love to do that!!! How exactly do you do it though? I will ask one of them on monday but i thought i'd ask on here. Is it really expensive £££? Is it a private company you have to get in touch with or do you just do it all yourself? The foreign students here are staying with local families too, how does that work? Oh and any tips in learning German? I have been learning it for 5 years but i still aint fluent :/

Thanks!!! :D

In my country (Russia) there is a program called FLEX that let high school students go to USA with no charge (they just have to pass some tests, have an interview and some other things), but it's really hard to get. The chances of being chosen are 1/100 (it's less harder to be accepted to Harvard lol). We don't have any exchange programs to go to UK because the education there is really expensive :( But AFS is a really good thing too! In my country you can win a scholarship to go wherever you want but it's like 10 scholarships for the whole country and other people have to pay (it's like $10000-15000 for a year). I hope you'll have the best way to go for yourself!

Outside EU like India their government pays for them to study in UK because they don't have the same level of university overseas. If a UK students wants to go overseas they have to pay for it and pay your own accommodation. Learning a foreign language is hard but you will become more fluent living in that country, I have been studying Spanish for around 30 years and know about enough to get by, Good Luck

At the HS level try www.AFS.org for student exchange programs.

At the university level you would need to do a study aboard program to another country through your university. You would need to be enrolled as a full time student.
