is it legal for a teacher to request a student's work schedule?
My friend is having a problem. She goes to a college that is a bit shady. I won't mention the school. The location is Philadelphia, PA. She's been flunked by her professor 3 times. This is partially due to the fact that her work schedule interferes with classes. She is being singled out. Other students come and go with no regards to their work schedule. Several complaints against this teacher from various students has been made.
I mean that some students get harped on while others do not (on the same topic. Leaving class for work.). She's looking for some way she can cope with this teacher. Is there anything she can do?

Nothing illegal about it. If your friend us using work as an excuse for missing class, it's even logical. And if "several" students have complained about this professor, doesn't sound like your friend is being singled out. Sounds like the person is just a strict teacher.

Why do they need the work schedule? IF she is claiming the missed class is because of work, of course she has to prove that.
They can't just flunk her b/c they don't like her. She's not telling you the whole story.
She can cope by showing up for class. Not anones fault her work interferes with class but hers. She needs to take some personal responsibility and figure it out, not blame it on someone else.
If several complaints being made, then she isn't being singled out, is she?

May be for that school. Check with the unified school district in that area, or with the state board of education for same.
