Braces: Foods to eat while your mouth is sore?

Hi :)

So I'm getting braces on in a couple days and I was wondering if anybody has any suggestions on easy soft foods to eat while my mouth is still sore.

I have an expansion device in my mouth and my mouth hurt kinda bad for 2 weeks afterwards, and I know braces are a lot more painful, so I'm kinda scared :/ - Any tips for preparing for them?

Thank you so SO much if you answer, I really appreciate it!

The most important thing here is not the food you eat but the hygiene.

You can eat anything, but you have to take extra good care of your teeth cause when you get your braces, there will be lots of metal details which will make additional spaces for food to get stuck in your mouth, they cause a lot more trouble - it's a source of infections and bad breath in mouth. To clean you can use toothpicks or special toothbrushes.

I've had braces myself but the pain lasted only 2 days for me when I got them. I didn't have an expander though but I had to wear headgear at night so it would pull my teeth forward.

But if you really want to have food that won't cause pain I would recommend dairy products mostly cause I think you have to get accustomed to the pain, it will hurt less and less later so you will be able to eat what you want.

EDIT: you can eat food that is mostly in fluid form cause it does not need to be chewed.

A soft-food diet is best for first few days. Choose things like: mashed potato, soups, soft casseroles, pasta, smooth yogurt, custard, soft bread without crusts, soft muffins without nuts or chunks, tortillas, pancakes, cous cous, noodles, rice, soft mashed fruits - avocado, mashed banana, cooked apple, fruit juice. Once you adjust you'll be able to eat most of the foods you usually do. Just avoid anything too crunchy that can break a brace.

I just had mashed potatoes and soy milk. And I ate a mcdonalds muffin with hard crusts which really hurt my teeth. Man I wish this pain goes away anyway good luck

For the first week or so you should eat very soft foods. for example, smashed potato's, soup, rice and so on so on. Trust me, it will hurt to chew!
