Who else thinks the USPS is a waste of tax payer dollars?
The USPS has been around for nearly as long as the country has been around. In the past ten years they have seen an incredible drop in profit to the point where they are needing to be rescued and it seems like the USPS has become the charity branch of the government where there is no profit instead it is a black hole for tax payer dollars.
Why? Could someone possibly explain to me why the USPS is still around? How about the fact that UPS and FedEx do the SAME thing that the USPS does but they are recording profits. Out with the old, in with the new. I vote bye bye USPS.

Your question is not based in facts. The USPS has not received one cent of taxpayer dollars for its operations in over 25 years.
UPS and FedEx are far from doing the same thing as USPS. neither visits over 140 million addresses across the US, 6 days each week. Neither can deliver a letter for 46¢ either.

I suggest you inform yourself before asking questions that make you look ignorant.
USPS does not receive taxpayer money. It operates on revenue taken in from products and services.
USPS was solidly in the black until 2007, after Congress passed the 2006 bill that essentially steals $5.5 billion a year from the semi-governmental agency, purportedly to pay for future 'benefits', something NO private entity or ANY other government entity does - it's 'pay as you go' for the rest of the world. Congress did it because they saw USPS profits as a way to make the deficit they created look a little smaller, and this is exactly why they won't fix the problem.
UPS and FedEx do NOT do the same thing as USPS. They all compete in the same business, and that's it. USPS is mandated by the US Constitution to provide mail service. It delivers to places UPS and FedEx refuse to go (because they can't make money if they do). USPS provides forwarding of most mail and holding mail at no cost. UPS and FedEx charge for anything 'extra' you can think of. When the price of fuel goes up, both private companies slap on fuel surcharges to their shipping rates that you never hear about in the mass media, but when those higher fuel costs impact USPS, too, it must get any rate increase approved by the Postal Rate Commission, and even the suggestion of doing that, we all know what happens then - the media craps its pants and we get millions more ignorant responses like yours.
USPS tries to operate like a business, but at the heart of it it is still a service provided to Americans. Say bye bye to USPS as it exists and you'll regret it.

Depending on where you live, usps is still heavily used around the country. They offer the cheapest rates than FedEx or ups. Many many people use usps to ship packages and mail letters. All of ebay is integrated to be "usps friendly." Yes, the company itself is starting to fade away, but that's due to the rise of email. In short, usps is not a waste of tax payers' money.

they are not currently taking any tax money, of course that could change. the Postal Service is 100% funded by selling stamps and charging fees. you could only get rid of the USPS by constitutional amendment, and said constitution did not require the Postal Service to operate free of taxes.
The main reason the USPS is slow to adapt is because Congress nixes all proposals presented by the Post Master General to make the service more viable and modern. It is the Congress itself that is the problem, Postal Union members have no say in operations. If the CEO of UPS or FedEX had to get approval from the stockholders for every change in operations, services or charges, they would be in even worse shape than the USPS.
Congress works with a different agenda than ordinary business owners. For example, the Postal Service was required to hire a quarter million new workers during the Reagan recession. kept the unemployment numbers down. Bush required the Postal Service to make huge cash reserve deposits to pre-pay the retirements of those same Reagan era hires. Since that money is required to be put into Treasury Bonds, you can say Bush financed his wars by selling postage stamps.

There are many millions of people that depend on the mail service. To receive bills, letters, announcements etc. They need the mail to mail out their bills. Many people receive checks in the mail for whatever reason. Also, mailing a small pkg. is a lot cheaper than Fedex. Health ins. providers need the mail to send out their packets. If Fedex was cheaper, they would use them, but they don't. We send mail all over the world...do you want to stop that? I think you are getting a bit carried away. Calm down and perhaps a 2nd cup of coffee will help.

The USPS does not spend ONE PENNY of tax money.
FedEx charges $20 to deliver a letter.
You are a moron.

I disagree. The US postal service has probably done more to stimulate trade in this country than any other government agency. Fed Ex cannot deliver letters to every address, every day for less than 50 cents. The profitable package delivery service costs more than USPS too, and that is why they can make a profit.

Personally, I LIKE being able to send a letter or a bill payment for 47 cents instead of $5...

The postal system needs to change to survive, but it's too unionized to let it happen.
We don't need home delivery every day. We could probably manage to survive for 2 days, 3 days or even a week without junk mail and bills. Change delivery to once or twice a week and the postal system is in fine shape.
