Was I wrong in asking this question?

I live in the country, so my female German Shepard runs free on my property. Not long ago she came in season, before long I find her and a stray male dog in the moment. Not wanting mixed puppies, I immediately made arrangements with my vet to perform the necessary procedure. Telling two friends about this, they both said they couldn't do what I decided was best. After listening to them trying to make me feel I was in the wrong, I asked them this question. So you believe a unwanted puppy has more of a right to life than a unwanted baby? Knowing each had an abortion. Was I wrong?
