Do people realize that it is not accurate news casting to say that Democrats say Republicans say...?

That is merely hearsay and yet every liberal I know quotes Democrats about what Republicans are supposedly saying and then prove the Republicans wrong based on this. This is called a Stawman argument and it is in inherently flawed.

I hear the same from some Republicans but not as often. I also hear it from atheists saying what christians believe even though I cannot find any Christian who believes it and I hear it from Christians about what atheists believe when it is only a small minority of emotional atheists who believe it (emotional meaning they decided to be atheists because they don't like religious people versus coming to the conclusion from the process of logic.)

Update:

I am calling it newscasting because all they do is report that someone said that someone said. This is not news reporting. News reporting is telling people what happened, not what someone says happened that cannot be proven.

I know too many people who then want to argue about what Bill Maher says that Christians believe (or do) or some other nonesuch they heard on a news show. It drives me nuts when people say that a certain group wants something but can only quote a news show where a person who opposes that group says they want it. I have yet to hear a single Catholic say they want to ban the sell of birth control and yet I have heard newscaster say they do and people quote them.

I hope most of us do, Hart. Although, you call it "news casting," I hope you mean news reporting. Talking heads "cast" the news - the read what is put in front of them, they rarely if ever go out and investigate, ask questions, research, etc. You are tossing out all these names like "Republicans," "Democrats," "Christian," and "atheists," and I think you are talking the folk who do the "casting." I give no quarter to them when I seek actual news and facts.
