Perceptions of New Yorkers: sophisticated, wearing all the smartest and latest fashions, rude, helpful, tough, liberals, don't own a vehicle, actually speak 'the New York accent,' &c.
Of course, this list of 'perceptions' is a mixture of preconceived ideas, exaggerations, and accurate descriptions of many New Yorkers. Different people have different experiences when they visit NYC as guests, or perhaps live there as mere short-term residents, or deal with NYC expatriates outside NYS, or get their ideas of New Yorkers from watching some movie; these things produce different sorts of ideas of what NYers are like.
