Do all cat's eyes appear to be red in the dark or is it just because my half Siamese has blue eyes?
I have had cats in the past and do not remember their eyes appearing red in the dark. To be truthful, it is a little creepy and he is the meanest damn cat in the world.

I love when cat's eyes change with the light. I own 4 cats...Max, Cali, Bela and Urit
Max's eyes turn green
Cali's eyes turn a glowing yellowy white colour
Bela's eyes turn a deep cobalt blue
Urit's eyes turn greeny/yellow
Bela's eyes are the coolest ones yet.
*I had a border collie dog with one brown eye and one blue eye. The blue eye would turn red..

There are different genes which cause some cats to have blue eyes. Colourpoint cats with blues eyes have a reflective tapetum, but this is depigmented because the Siamese colour is caused by albinism. This depigmentation gives the red-eye with flash cameras.
Cats who get their blue eyes from the "dominant" white gene have a normal tapetum lucidum, so their eyes reflect the more familiar green in the dark.
The lady who writes the articles on the Messybeast web site is an expert on feline genetics and has an article (with photos) on the subject of blue eyes which you might find interesting. One all white blue-eyed cat has one eye which reflects green, whilst the other reflects red!
